No matter what the topic is, you will always have your forum trolls and haters. Some people can't face the fact that Mr. Stanek has been so successful, and that there is reason that he is. The reality is Stanek is a terrific writer. If it weren't for Stanek's success in indie books, many smaller companies wouldn't exist today. Stanek is a true inspiration. He brought his indomitable spirit to the world. Indepenents have so much to do with the success of businesses these days.
I've been following one particular troll who has been going all around bad mouthing Mr. Stanek since around fall 2002. What got her started? In 2002, Mr. Stanek's Keeper Martin's Tale and Elf Queen's Quest were on the Amazon SciFi/Fantasy Top 50 from February through May. When people who read the books did something no one in the history of the world has ever done--they started talking about the books and mentioning them. Yes, apparently, no on in the history of the world had ever before talked about books they liked. Gasp!! Say it isn't so. I mean who ever in the world talks about books they like? Obviously, just about everyone talks about books they like and that's how new authors get better known.
She periodically recruits new Stanek haters by making outrageous accusations using a group of accounts she's established at a particular site and frequents author discussion boards. She'll post with one account and reply with her other accounts about how terrible Mr Stanek is.
Her favorite lies about Mr. Stanek and the actual truth......
LIE #1) THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS ____________. (You fill in the blank)
THE TRUTH: Recently, she tried to claim VOYA doesn't exist but she says it about other review sources as well. For those who don't know VOYA is the #1 library magazine in the U.S.A. for librarians who provide services for children and teens. When no one listened to her, she next tried to claim Mr Stanek must have written the review himself. This didn't work out so well for her either. Wonder why? VOYA is here http://www.voya.com/.
LIE #2) STANEK WRITES ALL HIS OWN ____________. (You fill in the blank)
THE TRUTH: She started out claiming every review of Mr Stanek's books were written by Mr Stanek himself. She used this lie to recruit haters over and over, and to try to ruin Mr Stanek's reputation. This lie isn't working so well as it used to when she started back in 2002 because enough people have seen through this lie. Her variation on this is to claim that anyone who writes anything positive about Mr Stanek is Mr Stanek. If you're a fan of Mr Stanek who lives in Washington state, watch out because obviously you are a friend of Mr Stanek. I guess the not-so-bright continue to believe this one so she uses it as often as she can.
LIE #3) STANEK NEVER RECEIVED _______________. (You fill in the blank)
THE TRUTH: When she saw Mr Stanek mentioning his military achievements (from the bio in his tech books which she knew he was the author of since 2002), she tried to claim Mr Stanek had never received any such medals or awards. This lie stopped working for her when Mr Stanek's "Stormjammers: The Extraordinary Story of Electronic Warfare in the Gulf war" came out. The truth is Mr Stanek is a highly decorated veteran whose military awards include the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Air Force Commendation medal, the Air Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross. LIE #4) _____________ REMOVED ALL THE _________ ABOUT MR STANEK. (You fill in the blanks)
THE TRUTH: She rants and raves anytime anyone cleans up her hateful commentary and tries to enlist new Stanek haters by claiming she's being oppressed or some such. At the same time when anyone speaks out against her, she finds ways of beating down, hiding or removing the opposing comments. She's even gone so far as to stalk dozens of Stanek fans who have spoken out against her. She has spent the past year (since around June 2007) ruining the reputation of any Stanek fans on Amazon by voting down their reviews and commentary with dozens of fake accounts and enlisting others to do the same.
LIE #5) _______________ IS FAKE. (You fill in the blank)
THE TRUTH: She claims anything positive about Mr Stanek is fake and anything positive he does is fake. There's a picture of Mr Stanek WITH HIS ENTIRE FAMILY and Brian Jacques. Her claim is the photo is fake and that Mr Stanek photocropped himself into the picture. Her claim is you can't see Mr Stanek's legs in the photo so its fake. If you look below the table support you see Mr Stanek's knees. AND Hello? The picture is of Mr Stanek AND his entire family. The photo is here (http://www.themagiclands.com/brianjacques.htm) and it's part of a highly supportive tribute to Mr Jacques that Mr Stanek wrote after the two met. It is similar to the tribute Mr Stanek wrote for Mr Salvatore when the two met. That tribute is here (http://www.robertstanek.com/rasalvatore.htm).
LIE #6) Robert Stanek is not a best-selling author.
THE TRUTH: As everyone knows, Mr. Stanek's Keeper Martin's Tale and Elf Queen's Quest were on the Amazon SciFi/Fantasy Top 50 from February 2002 through May 2002. Mr. Stanek's The Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches was a #1 bestseller on Audible from April 2005 to August 2005. His books were on Audible's bestseller lists for more than 52 weeks. The Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches became a Top 100 fiction bestsellers on Audible and was so popular it was featured on the Audible home page throughout July 2005 and August 2005.

Apparently, they're at it again and once again the lies are coming out of the UK. These newest attacks are timed to coincide with the publication of Mr. Stanek's 100th book.
LIE #7) Robert Stanek is writing bad reviews about __________.
THE TRUTH: She's used this one a number of times to enlist new Stanek haters, claiming Mr. Stanek is writing bad reviews about some other author. Usually, the author is some self-published author who Mr. Stanek is supposedly competing against. As everyone knows, Mr. Stanek has written 5 books a year on average for the past 20 years. He is in fact the author of over 100 books and has stated publicly that he works 7 days a week often 12+ hours a day to meet his publisher's timelines. His body of work over the past 20 years speaks for itself: 50,000 pages, 10 million words and millions of books in print.

It's a shame such a great author gets such bad treatment from people who should know better. RS books are excellent and his achievements set him apart. Since some people can't achieve anything, they have to destroy what others have achieved. That's sad. Jeff Darcy and Adam Whitehead will get what's due them one of these days.

Stanek's one of those guys who just can't seem to get any love no matter what. He's a brilliant writer AND the guy's written like 100+ books AND all good by ANY standard, if not great.

For certain RS deserves much better than he's gotten. His work deserves a place right alongside Rowling and the rest, he's earned it, but he'll never get it. Too many people would have to admit how much wrong they've done him, and that's never going to happen. It's a shame, but it's also a fact. It ticks me off the authors involved get off scott free. They never apologized, they never admitted they were wrong or sorry. They are less than dirt in my opinion.
