The three biggest surprises were Calyin, Lord Serant and Captin Brodst. I ended up loving every bit of their stories.

What surprised me the most is how all the Alder sisters grew in my heart. I even kind of liked Midori by the end, at least I understood her by then and could understand what she went through.

Midori was so interesting in that way because her background is slowly revealed.

Add Captain Brodst to that too

Add Vadan Evgej - since I think he's one of the coolest of Valam's officers.

Vadan is interesting, I hope there's more on him next time.

Put my vote in for Noman and Amir. Valam would be near top too, and some of his men. Also the elven outrider Teren.

Valam certainly. Teren is interesting in some ways, like Evgej and others.

Calyin, Serant and Brodst were big surprises. I enjoyed reading their thread. Valam's as well.

Always liked Captain Brodst, and I like that he becomes more a main character as the stories progress. Ditto for Calyin. Still missing Emel though like everyone else.

Vilmos, Xith, and Adrina will always be tops but I agree Valam, Brodst, Calyn became more and more the ones I wanted to read about.

See that's the thing about Robert Stanek's books, so many great and wonderful characters who seem like friends. Even the scoundrels are interesting. I'd put all Alders at the top of my faves list.
