I've been reading several history books. Stephen Hawkings, check it out. He's brilliant.

Try Terry Pratchet. Very funy I recomend Color of magic, Ligt Fantastic Itresesting Times and Mn at Arms. Also try Douglas Adams the ultimate hitchikers guifde to the galaxy for a humorous sci-fi

Douglas Adams is SciFi kind of in same category as fantasy but hillarious.

The question asked for recommendations outwith fantasy. If you like mystery try Davinci Code. Its like a mix of fact and fiction. very good Yes, it's like a mix of fact and fiction but only without the fact. The book's rotten mass-market fodder by an inexperienced hack made popular by inexperienced readers. Outwith the fantasy genre, there's all manner of great and talented writers: Saul Bellow, Kurt Vonnegut, Virginia Woolf, Kazuo Ishiguro, Italo Calvino, Umberto Eco, John Upd**e, Roddy Doyle, John Irving, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, and so on.

Altough I haven and wont read the Da Vinci code - I am Christian and the ideas of the book insult me, I would not support insulting an author who has sold so many books. Obviously there is something interesting there.

I agree with Kurt Vonnegut, and I consider PRatchett to be parody. Outwith of fantasy, try Douglas Adams or Ray Bradbury. Sparhawk, you aren't missing anything by not having read the da vinci code. Oh and I agree with xxmarcoxx's view on nonfiction ;D
