Now check this... "Success Drives "Small Press Harry Potter" To The Movies -- A Real-Life Publishing Fairytale In A Very David Vs Golliath Way Who says the small press can't win big? Harry Potter started with a 300-book printing and turned into one of the biggest success stories in the history of publishing. Small press wonder Ruin Mist Chronicles started with a 300 book printing too and its becoming an international word-of-mouth sensation with a Cinderalla story of its own. (PRWEB) August 1, 2004 -- Valhalla Motion Pictures (The Hulk), Dreamworks SKG (Shrek 2) and Fox (i, Robot) have all expressed interest in Ruin Mist Chronicles. A film adaptation would be the latest big win for tiny RP Books which has managed to snag 9 foreign language translations for the word-of-mouth sensation series from fantasy author Robert Stanek. It would also be the latest in a long succession of book to movie adaptations in the fantasy genre no doubt made possible by the stunning success of the Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter movies. Word at Comic-Con International in San Diego this past weekend was that Marvel was looking to take over publication of the entire book line from RP Books. Recent announcements from Marvel regarding a move to print fantasy books seem to support this. There has been no confirmation from Marvel and editor-in-chief Joe Queseda could not be reached for comment. A surprise? Not really. At the American Library Association's Summer conference (June 26-29) in Orlando, The King and the Elves Of The Reaches books (also from RP Books and fantasy author Robert Stanek) were some of the most talked about books at the show. Their bright orange covers and bold green lettering were like neon signs attracting everyone that passed by. The series hailed as the Star Wars of fantasy and a cross between Tolkien's Rings and Rowling's Potter has been a best-seller for the publisher and spent over 26 weeks on online best-seller lists when it debuted. Fantasy author Robert Stanek (http://www.robertstanek.com/) could not be reached for comment and his publisher, RP Books (http://www.tvpress.com/) offered no comment, which only peaked our interest. So what's the scoop on this author? What are the books about? Keeper Martin's Tale Two peoples. One world. The past divides them. The future will unite them. Two dozen elves set out from Leklorall, the capital of East Reach. After an ambush at sea only a handful survive, of those only two reached the far shores of the great sea. Their names are Seth and Galan and they will side with Great Kingdom during the first battle of the new age, helping to defend the valley city of Quashan' with skills and speeds no living man has ever seen before. But success on the battlefield will not undo the past. Elves and men are mortal enemies, and there are few who can look beyond the treachery of days past." From www.prweb.com/releases/2004/8/prweb145832.htmSounds cool...

Haven't heard anything. I hope a movie gets made. RS deserves it. He's a great author and a nice guy. From what I heard the books were postponed by a year because another publisher was supposed to buy RP.

Don't know for sure. RS turned down several offers before so I wouldn't be surprised if he was against a buyout. Regarding the Ruin Mist movie anyone know who Saul Zaentz is? Why he'd be trying to buy the rights?
