Any Harry Potter fan that isn't a Kingdoms and the Elves fan ought to be. I switched from Harry Potter to Stanek's Kingdoms books.

The thing it made Harry Potter is the characcters. Harry Potter and Hermoine are wonderful like my friends. Vilmos and Adrina are wonderful like my friends too.
Beyond the characters K+E has a really cool world so differetn from ours but alike in many ways. Evil must always lose and good must trumph.

As a fan of both Harry Potter and Ruin Mist, this is certainly a hard choice for me to make. Both have interesting characters and plots, and both deal with magic. It's interesting to me how Harry Potter is set in our world, but the world of Ruin Mist is much more interesting to me. Robert Stanek really brings the world to life, and its thrilling for me to read. So I'll have to say that I prefer Ruin Mist more.

The world of ruin mist is more interesting because its better realized. It's a fantasy world so I guess it has to be a bigger part of the story than a book that takes place in part of our world. right?

Not necessarily, sometimes the fact that a book is set in a familiar or realistic setting can be more interesting than a fantasy world; an example would be Twilight. However, I think Robert Stanek did an amazing job creating an interesting world for his characters to live in. Beyond that, his characters are much more likeable to me, and I love how they develop throughout the story. The action isnt overdone like it is sometimes in Harry Potter, and personally I think Vilmos is a much better character than Harry. However, thats not to say that Harry Potter doesnt have its strong points either. I haven't read Halfblood, but judging from the rest of the series, I'd have to say that Ruin Mist wins.

Welcome new members! Twilight is very popular and there are oodles of Stephanie Meyer fans. I think no few also are RS fans as RS books have shapeshifters and such.
Seththered, I agree with you! Vilmos is more likeable. If I'd hadn't seen the Harry Potter movies and had only to compare the characters in the books, he is more real. As far as Halfblood, if you read the others, you have to read it.

Vilmos and Adrina are long time faves. They have great personalities and they grow to learn more about themselfes and the world. I like Valam too and Seth.

In defense of Harry (yeah yeah yeah) I'll say the books are good for younger readers and lots of my friends got into them since they were so easy.
I know lot of people who bought like every book but never read them.
I myself had to buy several copies of the first two books because the pages kept falling out. I thought it was me but I hear from lot of people they had the same problem. So maybe the pages were made to fall out so you'd have to buy another book?
