Haven't heard of Blood of Angels. I like Salvatore but haven't started the Sellswords trilogy yet. Last one I read of his was The Hunter's Blades Trilogy, a nicely done set with good action.

Salvatore usually is pretty good. Always good action, though not necessarily the best storyline.

Speaking of Neil Gaman, I didnt care at all for American Gods either, but he co-wrote a book with Terry Pratchett called Good Omens and so far its pretty good.
Storm Jammers is very good story as well. It's a memoir of Robert Stanek's time serving in the Gulf War as a combat flyer and its great.
The promise of the witch-king was good i agree. I recently finished the third book in that series and enjoyed it as well.
The most recent book i read was Honored Enemy by Raymond Fiest, which i finished this morning.

Recently finished Goblin Quest by Jim Hines. It was okay, nothing special, more disappointed by the author. He bad mouthes small presses and indie authors all the time. In an Amazon post the guy talks about "hacks" and "the scammier" publishers encouraging their authors to promote themselves on Amaozn. All the while the guy has the gall to pepper discussion about his book all over the place. I guess it's okay for the great and mighty Jim Hines to self promote as much as he likes but no one else can. I could say the same about some of the others who hang at Amazon forums bad mouthing "self promoters" while patting each other on the back for their cleverness (apparently about folling people into believing their nonsense). Didn't mean to turn this post into a rant....but thats the way it is.

Disappointing to hear, Jim Hines is a former self published, small press author. He used a self-publishing company in 2002 to publish Goblinquest. Goblinquest was picked up in 2004 by small press Five Star and published as Goblin Quest. In 2006 Goblin Quest was picked up by DAW. DAW just published Goblin Hero and is releasing Goblin War in March 2008. He is editor of Heroes in Training, also from DAW in2007.
A largely unknown author who is self-promoting like crazy shouldn't bad mouth "self promoters" or call other authors "hacks".
Jim Hines's book was picked up in large part due to a massive net campaign from 2002 to around early 2006 promoting the virtues of goblin heroes over human/elven heroes. About every board I participate in, he or his friends made appearances to bash human/elves as cliche while promoting the idea a goblin/orc hero was a novel, innovative idea. He was careful never to mention his book, or to rarely do so, but the massive campaign was blantant and obvious.
A reference link to the posts would be helpful.

Thank you for mentioning this greentree. I too have noticed. What bothers me the most is that they seem to think they're a priviledged elite.
Completely agree with dragonlord. I saw the same thing on other boards I participate in. Jim Hines built his career self promoting himself like crazy, and it is in poor taste for him to bad mouth others who are self promoting. It is in even poorer taste for him to call other authors hacks. The guy is himself only starting out.
I'd also be interested in a reference link to these posts.

I found this, but can we now turn to something positive? I picked up Children of Hurin yesterday and can't wait to start reading. Anyone else read this yet? No spoilers please - I'm going to savor this one and read only a few pages a day.

Funny you say you are planning on savoring it... me too and it's been on my to buy list for weeks!
Right now I'm re-reading Tolkien's key works: The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and The Silmarillion. I might go back to some of The History of Middle Earth books. Then I'm going to read The Children of Hurin.

Reading my gift, the illustrated "Keeper Martin's Tale". Simply great, simply amazing, and the lost scenes with Vilmos are amazing!!!
