I agree. Brooks is an excellent writer, but The Four Lands aren't as original as the world of "Ruin Mist" and the pace of the Shannara novels is much slower than the pace in KE books. In one thing I admit that Brooks is superior, however - his villains are really chilling. The Reaper especially was like a horror monster - invincible, unstoppable silent killing machine.

The Reaper was certainly horrifying.

Definetly. He was faceless and merciless and always confident in his abilities. SPOILER. When I read the book for the first time, I was very young and thought that he died when he fell from that bridge. So, when he reappeared later in the book, killing these poor gipsy, I was chilled. Also I liked that he never used any magic, like his master Dagda Mor, only his brutality and strenght. In the new "Shannara" books a new hideous killer appeared, Aphasia Vye.

It started out slow but the pace quickened really quick for me. I thought it was pretty good.
