Thank you! Hope everyone had a happy holiday. Thanksgiving begins the swing to Christmas so it is a mixed blessing. Spent most of Thursday and Friday doing the decorations and trimming the tree. Saturday morning was spent shopping when I should have been writing.
On to the questions...
bl25run, it's rather premature to discuss right now. I do thank you for the compliment, regarding "Harry Potter" and "Lord of the Rings".
2. With regard to Adrina and Emel, I would love nothing more thatn to put them together--if it is the right thing to do for the story. As far as Emel "truly" loving Adrina, we'll have to see how the story develops.
3. I can tell you I would love nothing more than to have the RPG completed. I have discussed how this would evolve and whether it'd be open to other authors -- that would depend to some extent on the success of the world.
4. Hmmm, tough question to answer without giving away too much. That should be clue enough right?
frankr, you're welcome...I'm glad I've been able to help you get your writing going. I try to help new writers as much as I can, because I remember no one was there for me and how hard that was, time doesn't always allow. The e-signing will continue until January 31 at
store.yahoo.com/ruinmist/books.html. After that I won't be doing an more signings for a time. I believe they'll ship the book anywhere you want as long as you pay postage.
warrior25, I'm glad somone is reading "Ruin Mist Heroes, Legends and Beyond", just kidding--it's selling well! I grew up near Lake Geneva actually and I did attend the early GENCONs. I met Gary Gygax several times, and so did thousands of other players. Don't know if I'll ever release official stats for characters. RPG books and compaign settings are in the works, and now I've said much too much.
Shire Hobbit, no thank you for putting up the board. With its growing popularing, I just came to the conclusion that being involved made sense. I think it will be worth the time.
1. Fantasy is fun because I get to create the world. I do enjoy books and movies outside of fantasy. In fact, I read more books outside the genre than inside... Nothing like a good mystery or thriller.
2. Love music...if I'm jammed up or trying to block out the world I'll crank some classic oldies, you betcha.
3. Definitely, early reading is essential to developing a life-long love of reading.
VilmosTabborath, hey wait a minute, are you the "real" Vilmos Tabborath? Kidding aside, "Magic Lands & Other Stories" is a collection of four stories (technically, two novellas and two short stories). 1 Fantasy, 2 Scifi, 1 contemporary.
nightwraith, glad you love hating Erravane, me too... I expect Erravane will make an appearance now and then.
liquidxpop, seems to be working so far. Thank you! I think Valam is the image of the classic hero. He comes into his own in a big way in the next books, so I'm glad you like him.
trancemist, there's been lots of interest that's all I can say at this time. I am franchising the world - to what extent will be determined by the books' success, announcements as soon as possible, I promise.
freakshow, you will see more of Ray and Kerry...I am working on the sequel to the first book. Beyond that, I can't say. If fans want it, I don't see why not. People who love the Ruin Mist books might be disappointed if I spent too much time in that world because I wouldn't be writing what they want, which is the next Ruin Mist book.
mambogirl, I don't know if I have a favorite, I can tell you I am fond of them all.
sparhawk, thank you for the compliment, I think. I think I read somewhere on the board here--yes, I do read posts occassionally--the writer you want is the next imagination over. I know many writers in many fields, some fantasy, some not.
rogue, glad you've come to the board. Don't pick who wins gear, but since you're the first to ask, I'll send you one. Send me an email with your shirt size. Rest, no more freebies, till later.
xxmarcoxx, I played regularly for many years, no time now, online games, when I have time.
fireangel, I have given thought to writing about the first age, more likely the thousand year seige. As far as comics, if there's a 100% movie or computer game deal, then everything else becomes far more likely. Got to taken tiny steps first.
vicky, see above. refers to trench warfare of the time. More of two swords, yes.
dragonlady, more will be revealed on Vilmos.
2. Emel isn't gone.
3. Myrial went through hell yes she did, bad things do happen to good people.
4. Without giving away too much, Galia's last name is Tyr'anth.
5. People do revolute, that is revolution. Yes, there is a connection.
6. It is a completely new story, doesn't pick up where Kingdom Alliance left off, new all the same.
dragonlord, you're welcome. thank you, a lot of people don't understand the small press, so it is good to see some do.
gandolfthegrey, mostly writers only have to answer to themselves on the time card, deadlines usually mean I work almost every day of the year, so sometimes yes, sometimes no.
epic, yes and yes and yes. I use several programs mostly PhotoShop.
gaterfan, hmmm... hard to pin down. I spend a lot of time conceptualizing before actually writing, some things like Emel, Myrial, Edward just come together from the story itself and it works.
keeperofdreams, if enough readers want it, then yes.
cincblue, you're welcome.
pj, Emel came into the books by chance and started stealing scenes. People who love Emel want him to have even more scenes, I think he will.
EmelBrodst, first of all, thanks for asking, the book is coming along, slower than expected unfortunately.
2. See above. That's all from the history of Ruin Mist, some hints in "Ruin Mist Heroes, Legends and Beyond."
3. Hard to say, maybe subconsciously that's what he wanted, would have solved a lot of things, wouldn't have been good for the story.
Samiam, well, thank you!
gMan, you're welcome and to you and yours!
Samiam, I would recommend going to the library. Look in the section on references for a book called "The Writer's Market." It will teach you more about publishing and this industry than I ever could. If you love writing stick with it, that's all I'll say.
Okay got to go back to work I go...
Sorry for the brevity of the answers, but I'm jammed up with deadlines, at least until I get this book finished!
Everyone is free to help out if answering questions if you can, and keep the questions short, all right?
Dare to dream,
Robert Stanek
