you know that I do not agree and will never agree with your attacks to Harry Potter, but your comment about GRRM was very funny, hillarious.

That whole thing was about GRRM. Glad you liked it though.

Please, this is a family friendly board, do not ruin it with your unfunny and extremely offending remark. If you are speaking the truth this is not the place to do that.

I'm not a fan of George R. R. Martin per se, but when you have a go at him for describing such things as above I feel that I must defend him. The fact that he goes into details by using scenes makes him a good writer as he is showing the characters to you rather than telling you.
The example of the silver plates above would be an interesting one. If I were to be served ham on a silver plate then I would wonder about the person serving me the food. Ham is a rather common meat but silver plates imply wealth. I would get the impression that the character serving the food was actually poor but had silver plates to create the illusion of being better than they actually are.
It's a much better technique for a writer to use than to just say "He was poor but he used silver plates when he had guests to make him seem rich."
And there's nothing wrong with being depressing. Some of the best fiction of all time ends on a tragic note.

Hi wally welcome to the boards! Depressing is sometimes good. For me I didn't like Martin because of too much violence and sex, but hey that's only my opinion. Everyone has different likes and dislikes.

Martin is just dull. Not that he is depressing on something. Matthew Stover's novelization of Revenge of the Sith was also tragic, but it was terrific.

I agree. I like the novelization of starwars as well.
