Yes, he's also a gifted storyteller and that combination of good writing and good storytelling ability is what sets him apart. As an example, I enjoyed reading the latest Harry Potter. Rowling has proven herself a good storyteller, but she's not necessarily a good writer.

I've tried to be a Potterite but I don't like that JK doesn't support other authors or other books for that matter. Sure she has talked about a few of her favorite authors (because it was good PR) but with her billion-plus payday you'd think she'd be a champion of literature? Not so. On the other hand, you have RS who has given everything he has to support reading and learning.

When i first read stanek's books i was pretty young but now i'm in college and i still love them. I hope someday to have my children read them!! They are good stories with strong themes about friendship, loyalty, family, honor.

Good themes, yes, and good stories.

The large format editions are spectacular. I have the first one on my coffee table and anyone who sees it for the first time always picks it up and starts reading. I've made so many new RS fans that way.

The one with Vilmos and the lightning bolts? I can see why it is very nicely done. I still like the old standbys too.

There are definetly a lot of cool covers featuring Vilmos. I love the one with him and Xith on Kingdoms II.

I have a few different ones now, I love the big editions. The illustrations are full page in them.

Maybe Rowling decided to listen to her fans and give back and she's now giving back in big ways.
