Several members have brought this up lately so thought I'd do an official post. The Cold War is over, the U.S.S.R. is no more, the Berlin Wall is gone, but the Agency didn't close its doors, its agents simply went on to other things and new adversaries emerged along with a new world order. Newspapers talk of a world financial crisis, turbulent markets, governments failing, people losing everything. But no one is really paying attention to what's actually happening. The real reason for the chaos of the markets is something former Agent Scott Evers knows more about than he should and getting too close to the truth cost the lives of his operations team. His only advantage is that he went on the run before they could get him but his luck's about to change. He sees them waiting for him, wondering which will take him first, knowing that in the end it may not matter because the result will be the same: gunshots. Two bodies, his and one of theirs. He wonders if there is some other way out, but he doesn't see any alternatives. Sovereign rule is absolute. If you know too much, you must pay and the price is your life. If they kill Scott, there's no one left between them and us. America's future and the world's will be in their hands.

It's a thriller with a big central mystery. Reads fast!

Sovereign Rule was like no other Stanek book I read before. It shows he can write outside fantasy and goes to why his books are so good. Not that many can write such an intense page-turner. It is a thriller in every sense.

My first reading of it left me with a lot of questions. I would agree Scott Evers is very well drawn character as is Helen. Love Helen to pieces ;D

Anyone reading Sovereign RUle and also reading Davinci Code? I love conspiracy theory, couldn't help notice how both touch on God and how power can be evil in the wrong hands.

I liked that as usually Stanek managed to create very believable characters. Scott and Helen were like real people to me and it madde the story so much better.

Glen was a well done character.... but I would agree with gMan. Scott and Helen were the two I liked the most.
