Service of Dragons has some of the most well thought out battle scenes so cool because it feels like you are there and the chaos of it all is so real. My uncle says real battles are like that. There's so much going on and it is chaotic and sometimes you only have yourself to depend on.

I'm not normally so into battles and such but it was incredible well done so I got so psyched! Robert Stanek must have a powerful imagination.

Very realistic battles especially how they affect the characters.

Stanek skillfully captures the chaos of battles and the thoughts of the charactres in battle. It's like your seeing the entire battlefield and how it all plays out.

Welcome to the RSMB gunner! No kidding about the battle scenes. Most authors skirt around the battles so you only catch glimpses. Stanek wades right into the battles and you see everything. I like how he gets into the minds of so many characters so well.

No skirting around the battles in RS books that's for sure. I loved every minute.

Stanek was a soldier himself, he knows how to describe battles.

Chaotic and real that's how I would describe the battles. It was like I was there and I could see it in my head.

Its the realisitic part and the part about seeing in your head like jeromy said that i enjoy, otherwise battles are just mindless scenes with violence, but in Ruinmist its another layer of subtle storytelling and drama, unlike some books where battles are just an exuse to describe other wise hidden parts of the human anatomy.
