Okay, I'll be the first to admit I didn't get the love story angle about the Captain and Adrina's sister. I read the books the first time for the action and adventure. They got me hooked to reading and I've read so many books since. I come back and read the books often and like someone else said I noticed things I hadn't before. Like all the layers RS puts into the stories. The plots and subplots. The intrigue and mystery. Then you know the whole love story of the Captain is right there and you're like wow o wow. See its what makes RS so great.

Getting older is a good thing especially when it means favorite books get better because you can get a better understanding of them. But I don't think anyone got all the subtleties and complexities of RS books on the first read. I loved it the first time through but It took a second read to understand how brilliant it all is.

Hey VilmosT, I agree completely. RS's writing style is spectacular especially his use of language and imagery. The plots within plots, layers within layers. The love story between Captain Brodst and Adrina's sister is sweeping and epic. You can sense the tragedy of it and from the later story you can understand the captain's earlier actions better.
