I hope Mr Stanek writes a book about Emel and a book about Myrial.

Back on topic? I first read Stanek's books awhile ago and it was the action that got me into the story as much as the characters. Eventually the world hooked to me too. I don't see how anyone who gives it half a chance wouldn't like it. Better than Jordan (who gets stuck in detail too much). Better than Goodkind (who's a little too twisted). Better than Brooks (who tends to be a little too simple)

I've read and liked a lot of different fantasy, but none as much as Stanek's Ruin Mist books. I think the action was a big part but so were the characters. They are very real to me.

Very cool, too.

The action is excellent, some of the most sweeping, fantastic scenes in all of fantasy, but it is the rich history and the fascinating details too. I wouldn't trade scenes like the ones with Edward and Vilmos, or Valam and Eldrick for anything, they are solid, interesting but not necessarily action scenes.

What I like is the fantastic details are very much part of the story, they don't bog down the story. Also, agreed the books find a good balance and the many fascinating scenes like with Eldrick the trickster and Edward the troant.

I agree the stories have good balance. The parts with Eldrick and Edward are some of my favorites. Also the dream sequences and flashbacks to other times. Very cool!

What shines through in scenes like the ones with Eldrick and Edward is Stanek's brilliance as a writer. He makes great writing seem so effortless. Few books are better on a reread but these are, just goes to show how much thought Stanek put into them.
