I would think it is a good idea to know D&D rules or at least roleplaying. I don't think you have to have been a DM or anything like that. A player or if you've played Final Fantasy or such you should know how stats works and that stuff.

uptowngirl17.tripod.com/ is probably the most comprehensive site for helping you find Robert Stanek resources. www.tvpress.com/ is the official publisher site what else is their to say. I am still in the early stages of creating a comprehensive list of resources but uptowngirl17.tripod.com/ seems to be way ahead of me so I will only add what I think they are missing.

Create a character...then post it and the RPGers can discuss it. Then the DM (WE NEED ONE) can give final approval.

Before posting in the RPG area of the site I ask a couple of things:
-You either have read The Ruin Mist Chronicles, Ruin Mist Tales, or Keeper Martin's Tales by Robert Stanek, know about the world and it's style, or are willing to work with the GMs to stay true to the world without violating cultural and storyline assumptions.
-You are either familiar with role-playing games (particularly the d20 system) or are willing to learn from us at the board before posting.
Character creation: As the official RM RPG has not yet been released, we will be using a modified version of the d20 system. Go ahead and post in the character sheet thread if you already know how to do it, or ask questions if you need help!
We will be using the following Character Sheet:

Letting everyone know RS chat #5 is open officially. Please register if you're going to post. Then if you post make sure to take your time with it. It's really cool to get to ask the authors of your favorite books questions or just to chat with them, so lets make this fun and easy for RS. I'm pleased also to share hot news from RS ruinmist.proboards23.com/index.cgi?board=Announce&action=display&thread=1199483477&page=1. RS was looking for a way to thank board members. I was joking when I asked RS to give us all books so it was such a surprise he agreed. The top 20 posters get a signed copy of the one of the new books! He's even going to pay postage to anywhere.
