I got this because me friends said it was much better than Tolkien. Of course I didn't belive them at all till around book 2. Now I'm a humungous fan.

Much better than tolkien.... I had so hard to get through LOTR. I loved every second, every page of Stanek's books.

RS is better than JRRT... his books are easier and cooler to read, with better characters, more complicated plot, better magic system, world, which is at least on par with Middle Earth and much more interesting battles.

The battles are incredibly well detailed must be from RS combat background to get it so real. He earned the Distinguished Flying Cross in combat and from the scenes you can tell he knows his sh*t. Pretty cool.

Stanek books have a couple good things going for them: cool magic system, strong characters who you can like, cool world, and cool enemies. I also like the battles. Stanek knows hows to make battle very realistic.
