Tolkien obviously is a great grand master of fantasy literature. My lit teacher likens Stanek to a modern Tolkien, and I would say he's one of the new grand masters.

Hi bena welcome to the boards! Hope you'll join as a member.
Hi huntress, always intereseting to hear about! I think there are many new grand masters of fantasy - and many more waiting to be discovered by the mainstream.
Hi edog, the illustrated Kingdoms book is supposed to have "65 illustrations and include deluxe maps, encyclopedia of Ruin Mist. " Should be amazing for fans like us to see!

So true - so many good books don't even get popular. You have to read everything in fantasy to find the best ones.

Unfortunate, but true. I can't wait to get the next books from RS. I've been reading and reading again and again.

The encyclopedia of ruin mist still isn't out? I've been looking for it everywhere. Ruin Mist legends is okay but if you have the RMC deluxe editions you got the best of it already.

I don't know if better is the right word. Stanek has written books that I enjoy reading much more than Tolkien. I've read Stanek's books 7 or8 times so far. I read Tolkien's 2x. Ruin Mist is so interesting to me on account of all the history, and the way the characters are more realistic.

David stomps Golliath.... My librarian recommended Stanek to me over Tolkien.
