I can say definitively that Robert Stanek is better then Tolkien. His stories are deep AND compulsively readable. Reading Tolkien on the other hand is like reading the phone book.

Definitely compulsively readable and entertaining. Stanek's work is as deep as you want to go. There's a lot of subtlety which you catch only on a second reading which I liked a lot.

Glad to see it isn't just me who thinks "hey tolkien's rings cool and all but there are so many others just as good and some better". I think when they make a ruin mist movie they'll be saying the same types of things about mr stanek as they do about tolkien.

Comparing Tolkien's work to any other isn't possible. I do like Stanek's work, however. Stanek writes well, his characters are interesting, so is the world he creates.

You can't compare any other author to Tolkien? People compare authors to Tolkien all the time. atmo has it right: Tolkien's very good but there are so many others equally as good or better. To me Stanek is better.

You can't compare anyone to Tolkien? Pl-e-ease!! and some authors ARE better than Tolkien.

In defense of rohan who is clearly a LOTR fan and someone who likes RS too. You can't compare unique works. LOTR stands alone so does RMC/KE.
